Things Moving Proz Won’t Move

September 16, 2015

We do a lot, but there are some things we can’t, by law, remove and relocate for you.

While we here at Moving Proz pride ourselves on providing moving services for many household items, including the heaviest of furniture and all your valuables with care, there are some things that we won’t move. From hazardous materials to perishables, you should make other arrangements for moving or disposing of certain items. Those items include:

  • Liquids
  • Hazardous materials
  • Deceased remains
  • Perishable foods
  • Plants and animals
  • Power equipment with fuel

Also, we will not move anything that we feel is not packed properly including, but not limited to… TVs, Electronics, Artwork, Pictures, Glass Shelving, etc.

Let’s go more in-depth as to why we don’t accept these items.

Hazardous Materials

Anything corrosive or flammable constitutes hazardous material. These materials include the following:

  • Weapons and ammunition
  • Car batteries
  • Chemicals
  • Bleach
  • Gas
  • Paint and paint thinner
  • Pool chemicals
  • Fireworks
  • Pesticides
  • Poisons
  • Propane tanks
  • Sterno
  • Weed killer
  • Chemistry sets
  • Cleaning solvents
  • Fertilizer
  • Ammonia
  • Charcoal
  • Motor oil

Perishables

Before the movers arrive, it’s wise to go through your fridge and freezer and either throw out or consume the food there. Your movers won’t transport perishable foods, meaning anything that could spoil en route, such as fruits and vegetables, open food containers, liquids like milk, and frozen items.

Perishables also mean living things that could die, such as plants and animals. You may wonder why plants? It’s actually illegal to transport plants 150 miles without a license granting permission, as plants are perfect hiding spots for fugitives such as emerald ash borers, bugs and other predators that can cause harm. As for animals, this is a no-brainer: please take them with you in your car.

Power Equipment

If you own any power equipment with fuel in the tank, such as motorcycles, lawn mowers and weed eaters, we cannot move them. We will be happy to move these items only if you drain the fuel out at least 24 hours before loading.

Miscellaneous

Heed the list of above of things to take care of before your movers arrive so you’re no frustrated when told they can’t accept them. Other things to keep to yourself and not have movers transport include credit and debit cards, purses, important documents, expensive items like furs, valuables like gems, antiques, stamp collections, and anything with sentimental value. Yes, we CAN move these things, but we prefer you hang on to anything of value and take it with you, for the convenience, peace of mind, and safety of all.

For large, specialty items that fall within our accepted list of items to move (expensive telescopes, pianos, fragile artwork), it’s wise to alert your mover of them ahead of time, rather than on the day of moving, says Woman’s Day. Make a list of questionable items and clear them with your mover prior to the big day. This way, you can arrange for special transport on your own rather than be blindsided on the day-of.
