Declutter
The first step is to declutter. Head to that junk room with a pile of heavy-duty trash bags and some boxes. If you are wishy-washy before about getting rid of all that old stuff, remember that you will pay more to move more. So, in essence: you’ll be paying more than you have to just to move old junk you’ll probably end up throwing out anyway. Make three piles: toss, donate, and keep.- Anything that’s missing pieces and parts, or that’s broken and worn out should be tossed.
- Donate gently worn clothing, shoes, linens, furniture, linens, and kitchen supplies. Box them up, label the boxes, and take them to a local charity.
- Anything you keep should have a purpose or make you happy in some way.
Organize Before Packing
Pack items by category. Keep them all in one box and label them. This will make it easier on your movers to know what’s in each box and what room they go into at the new place. Label by category (shoes, linens, china), or by room, or by both. It’s helpful to use color-coded labels, markers, and lists. Create a list of everything in each box, either on paper or on your computer/phone. Tape a paper list to the box. If you’re using a digital list, number them in priority. Write any crucial notes on each box with a crayon or marker.

Pack a Bag for Essentials
Don’t forget to pack an overnight bag with the essentials you’ll need for the first day or two. This way, you don’t have to scavenge through the truck trying to find the boxes with your pajamas and toothpaste in them. Pack enough for a couple days’ worth of clothing, as well as essential medications and toiletries, phone charger, shoes, and towels. You may also want to pack some paper plates and utensils for those first couple of takeout meals, as well as basic cleaning supplies such as sanitizing wipes.Contact Moving Proz
