One of the biggest things you need to do before moving into your new home is to inspect it properly. You need to ensure that you are moving into the right home. Otherwise you will end up spend a lot of time and energy again to move into another home. So read and follow the below tips on how to inspect your new home before moving in…
1. Don’t do it on the internet:
It’s quite easy to find a house with the help of the internet. But you can never be sure if the house looks exactly as described with text and pictures. Many people are trying to offload the house as soon as possible and in the process will do anything to sell it. So don’t completely trust the copy or the pictures. Online house listings are good for an initial assessment only. If you want to learn more about the home you need to drive down there and check it out in person. See if it is exactly as they describe it or if it is at least good enough for your needs.
Meticulously look for damages and figure out how much it will cost you to fix them.
The best thing to do is to make a list of houses you like most and then visit them one by one. You can then pick the best house to move into.
2. Check the neighbourhood:
A good house isn’t just about the indoors, check the outdoors and see what the neighbourhood is like. First look around on the internet. You can check the surroundings with Google maps or earth if you would like to. An online search will help you learn if it is a friendly neighbourhood, if there any schools and parks nearby and several other details. Ensure that you find out what the crime levels are like too. You can check the neighbourhood out in person when you visit it.
3. Get as much info as possible:
If you’re happy with everything and you are ready to purchase the house then sit down with the agent or the current home owner and find out as much information as you can. Find out things like the age of the boiler, the last time the house was rewired, what the neighbours are like, etc. If you are happy with everything you can consider moving into the house.
