This is a decent coverage option for heavy items, but a bare minimum option for lightweight items such as electronics. This structure was determined by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, and we at Moving Proz are proud to be law-abiding citizens.
Pro tip: if a moving company gives you a blanket answer of “yes, your items are completely covered,” read the fine print. We are all regulated by the same entity (FMCSA) and provide this exact same level of base coverage. The cost for Full Valuation (mover terms for any protection plan) depends on the declared value of your inventory as well as your selected deductible. You can request more coverage by providing the total value of your belongings that you’d like to cover t0 your Move Consultant! They’ll be happy to review the options with you.
If you have any items of extraordinary value (worth $100+/lb), we need to know this ahead of time in order to include these items under valuation. In certain circumstances, we may partner with a third party to provide a one-off insurance policy for your move. Please note that some items may also require a professional appraisal depending on the value claimed, so it’s best to start this process as early as possible.
